Star Wars Episode III 19 May, 2005
I just got back from Star Wars, Episide III. I went to the midnight (actually 12:02, gah why can’t they have “tha midnight showing” to make things simple?) showing and the theater (the new Cinemark here in Denton) was nice enough to let us in at 9:30p to wait in the theater. We sat K-T-K-T to save seats for Kasey’s family who was coming in from Sherman to see it with the rest of us (Kate and my younger brother, Ted).
I wonder, where on the Geek Chart are “Star Trek nerds who feel abandoned, and therefore watched the new Star Wars movie hoping it would have plot consistency (although it left a lot unsaid), consistent pacing (which it didn’t), and ended up mostly trying to spy a reflection of something neat in C3PO’s head”? I’m pretty sure that’s where I am. I was really disappointed by Enterprise and the angles Paramount was headed, and was hoping the “Final Episode” of Star Wars would be a redeeming sliver of Sci-Fi… apparently not. This bit of dialogue basically sums up my feelings (heard as we were leaving…CONTAINS A SPOILER):

.
- Guy #1
- “Wait a second, Jar Jar’s still alive?”
- Guy #2
- “I swear…”
- Guy #1
- “I can’t believe I waited in line hours and Jar Jar is still alive.”
